Three days this week Audrey was crying when she got off the school bus. She has a new bus monitor. They have not gotten off on the right foot, and this is the worst time of the year for a change. Today the bus monitor told Audrey she was a hard head. Dave was offended, but let's be realistic. If it walks like a duck.......
I tried to calm her down when she got home, but I needed to go to the stuff mart. We needed food and other essentials. I could have waited an hour for Dave to get home, but I wanted to get home and relax. So I decided to make the trip with Audrey. I should not have.
Once inside the store, she refused to stay on the same aisle as us. Landon was very worried we were going to lose her, but with all the screaming, I had no trouble keeping tabs. He kept goading her trying to get her to keep up. She kept yelling at him, and yelling at me. She wanted to look at everything, She wanted to put every thing in the buggy. She was completely melting down and almost out of control. I decided to speed things along. I should not have.
I asked Landon to go back to another aisle and get something for me. Audrey began to scream, she wanted to do it. I heard her screaming at him all the way to the other aisle and back. Landon said, "Mommy needs me to do it." She screamed at the top of her lungs, "You are a liar Landon, You are a liar." I was trying to calm and soothe her, but she was really to far gone. She said she wanted to put something in the buggy. To try and appease her, I let her hand me something. She immediately screamed, at the top of her lungs, "You did not let me hold it long enough."
I decided my only option was to run her over with my buggy. An older man, who probably thought he had seen it all tried to help. He should not have.
He said " Hey now little girl, Santa Claus is watching you." Audrey looked him square in the eyes and screamed. "He is watching my Mommy to, and she is not listening to me!" Poor old guy was so shocked he just stared back at her blankly. I avoided his glance, knelt down and got eyeball to eyeball with her. I told her she had to stop screaming. I told her everyone in the stuff mart thought she was on the naughty list because she was screaming. I told her I really needed her to calm down and help me finish shopping so we could leave.
I only managed to get enough food to get us through the weekend. She simmered down to whining cry while I finished shopping.
I got home and was trying to relax and let the stress go. Dave appeared and asked me if I bought any jelly. If he only knew how close he was to the edge of my sanity, he would not have asked. I see a shopping trip for Dave and his princess in the near future.
